Welcome to Bygrave Croquet Club
Our club is Affiliated to the Croquet Association and a member of the East Anglian Croquet Federation. Our web site provides access to everything you need to know about Croquet and where we don't have it, we provide the links to the best sites in the World. The club promotes the playing of Garden Croquet but some of our members also play Association Croquet which is a natural progression from the garden game. The garden game does not require a manicured lawn because it is played in gardens each one of which has its own character. So don't worry if your lawn is rather small - it doesn't matter. There may be a tree in the middle of the lawn or slopes, bumps and hollows - that is what makes it good fun. You can vary the difficulty of the game in several ways, more slopes, odd shaped garden, rose bushes in the middle of the lawn. If that isn't enough, let the grass grow longer and squeeze the hoops up so they are narrower.

Great Dunham Croquet Club is near Swaffham in Norfolk and is at the very early stages of development. Having moved to Great Dunham, Duncan Hector is creating a new club with a full size croquet lawn. The first stage was to build a club house which was done earlier this year and work on the lawn is nearly complete. It will be possible for croquet to be played here very soon and Great Dunham has already committed to play in the East Anglian Croquet Federation Golf Croquet League in 2018. www.greatdunhamcroquetclub.org
Bygrave win speed croquet at Soham
On 15th October there was a full entry of eight pairs which provided some very tight and intense play. However, despite the pressure the Bygrave pairing of Duncan Hector and Peter Whiting held their own with a 100% record of wins to take the day.
Another speed croquet win
On December 10th five teams Bygrave, Colchester, Downchester, Cambridge and Essex battled it out all day and not until the last games did it became clear that the Bygrave pair of Duncan Hector and Peter Ross had managed to clinch the day.
Baldock 41 Club Croquet at Bygrave
Baldock 41 Club paid their annual visit to Bygrave Croquet Club and enjoyed a rain-free evening of Golf Croquet followed by fish and chips. They croquet is definitely improving and their donation to our funds was much appreciated.
Herts stay in Division 1
Bygrave members Nick Mounfield, Richard Smith, Will Gee and Duncan Hector played for Hertfordshire in the 2017 Inter County Championships at Southwick and Eastbourne. The tournament got off to a poor start for the team but at the end of the four day tournament Hertfordshire maintained their position in the first division. It is a huge event involving 22 teams of 6 playing on 16 lawns with no fewer than 128 people playing at any one time. Grandchildren say "Croquet is cool!"
In this picture Megan was two years old but here she is being encouraged by her big sister Chloe. At Bygrave Croquet Club we have a "Family Croquet Set" in addition to several Championship sets. So children of any age can be introduced to this fascinating game.
At Megan's age it is a matter of just hitting balls through hoops rather than having a proper game. But her older sisters play a simplified version Garden Croquet and in time they will move on to the full blown game. Everyone thought he would be talking about Sextuples but he didn't. Instead he delivered a master class in his mental approach to the game.
